There has been a resurgence in the popularity of natural acne treatments in the last few years. Perhaps as life has become more complicated, and because individuals have become frustrated with the effects of the acne medicine given to them, it has led to a search for an effective alternative.
There are of course some who are quite satisfied with using minocycline acne as a solution. For others, the side effects caused more problems than they were worth, especially after having tried these products for a number of years. The problem with them is, that once you begin conventional treatments, any benefits derived tends to wear off once you stop taking that medicine.
For those looking for natural acne treatments, maybe to save some cash, or just as a desperate attempt to find something that really helps their acne, the internet is an excellent place to find remedies. As well as research on a particular skin vitamin for acne such as vitamin A, you’ll find all manner of articles on home treatments for acne from the Ayurvedic tradition, Western herbalism, and Chinese herbalism - as well as a few remedies from Grandma as well.
Ayurvedic remedies make use of foods and spices, ground up and mixed in a paste and put on acne. These are often left on overnight, in the case of the honey and cinnamon face mask, and the fenugreek mask. Others are washed off after 20 to 30 minutes, then removed. An example of this is the lime juice and rose water treatment, the sandalwood and rose water face mask, and the paste of vinegar and salt.
Do these natural acne treatments really work? Well, scientists have begun to confirm the medicinal value of some herbs, spices, and foods. Honey has antibacterial properties, and fenugreek has been approved for use in inflammatory skin problems in Germany. Fenugreek is often taken internally as well. Cinnamon has an anti-microbial activity. These and other spices may have modes of action which we are not yet aware of. They have long been used in skin conditions by herbalists.
Whilst these natural acne treatments often work well to clear acne you already have, they don’t treat acne at the source. This is at least true of the topical zit treatments, although the treatments that include a herbal and vitamin for acne, to be taken internally, are usually more effective.
Unfortunately, no one zit remedy will result in clear skin for everyone. But at least folks have a choice these days, an alternative to acne medicine. Still, for some, the use of natural acne treatments is in addition to, not instead of, any conventional treatments they are on.
